AP06 Nydvind / Bornholm Split 7" Vinyl
by Administrateur Boutique Date Added: Friday 21 October, 2011
On : Because this isn’t but a split-7”EP with one single song by two bands [and believe me, I won’t be denigrating the vinyl-scene], I won’t expand too largely about both fine acts represented on this split. This release will interest vinyl-lovers only, and in that case probably only those who do know the band(s) concerned. That’s it.

Nydvind are a French horde with former, session and current members of e.g. Heol Telwen, Bran Barr, Seide and Despond. They did record some excellent albums in the past (think Eternal Winter Domain, Sworn To The Elders). Bornholm are one of the strongest bands from Hungary. They too I hail for doing recordings in the past (On The Way Of The Hunting Moon, March For Glory And Revenge). That’s it.

Nydvind brings non-original, rather predictable Viking Black Metal with a typical Nordic approach. Oops, this doesn’t sound that positive. Well, actually this lack of originality is the only negative remark to make. France houses many great Pagan-acts, more than once strongly influenced by the Norwegian scene, yet Nydvind are one of the strongest bands for sure. Wrath And Wisdom, that’s the title of their contribution, stands for glory and majesty and refers to the (Norwegian) glory days from (almost) two decades ago. The hymn, and for sure one must call it a ‘hymn’, brings the superiority of the early nineties-superiority to mind, and I cannot but be thankful. Bornholm’s track, Feast Of Fire, dwells within the same regions, of course. Their Nordic-oriented Pagan / Black Metal is more rhythmic and bombastically full, yet at least as impressing as both Nydvind at the one hand, and the Norwegian scene at the other. That’s it.

Both tracks last between 5½ and 6 minutes. That’s it.

95/100 (twice)
