Vergos dî Noctis "Vosegus" Tape
by Administrateur Boutique Date Added: Monday 02 January, 2012
On : Here comes another raspy, treble bomb of haunting black metal by way of War Productions that has had my brain melting into fluorescent ooze from some sort of hypnotic stranglehold for months by the majestic Vergos Di Noctis.

I’ve been pummeling my senses with this French band for two months solid and the most accurate description that I can come up with is to say, without going redundant, is that “Vosegus is a perfect soundtrack for some gothic/horror thriller soundtrack”.

Okay, the band is essentially dark ancient pagan black metal without the folk shit, trolls and elves, etc., but I came up with something more fitting for their sound based on listening and not simply researching them and over analyzing them.

Recently I’ve been catching up on my horror film list and Boris Karloff /Vincent Price films seem to really be the ones as of late, so watching the glorious Madhouse the other day I suddenly made the connection that (something like) Vergos Di Noctis would be perfect as the soundtrack to the Dr. Death films (Dr. Death has corpse paint similar to King Diamond gone skeleton and brutally murders people in black and white classic horror films), which sadly aren’t real but really fucking should be.

So essentially VDN is a grainy black and white, gripping, blood soaked, nocturnal, haunting, cinematic, distorted blasts of majesty and brutality via power chords and simple archaic melodies that is fitting as the audio backdrop to a sadistic tale. Imagine King Diamond (paint and cape) slashing the throats of pretty young girls, stabbing them with a pitchfork n the neck, lynching, etc. and you’ve got Dr. Death. Now imagine a great soundtrack to that imagery laid out for you and you have VDN’s “Vosegus”. The vocals even sound as if they are actually freezing over as they pass through the guys throat or are gurgling through a mouthful of blood in a lunatic rant!!!!

I hate to pigeonhole a band, so if I have to name drop just to give some sort of aid for those with special needs, I’ll have to say that VDN is, “Raw and melodic, dense and sinister, violent and frosty black metal with a dense arctic forest and pagan vibe like that of: Forteresse, Neige Et Noirceur, Blut Aus Nord, Agantyr, Bathory, very early Burzum, very early Satyricon, and classic Nordic black metal (and YES, that actually is necessary to mention).
